관계부사(전치사+관계대명사) 형용사절

안녕하세요. 이번 포스팅에서는 관계부사(=전치사+관계대명사) 형용사절에 대해 알아보도록 하겠습니다.

 

‘주인’(명사)과 ‘하인’(형용사)을 정확하고 빠르게 구분하는 것은 독해뿐만 아니라 영작을 위해서도 반드시 익혀두어야 중요합니다.

관계부사 (전치사+관계대명사) 형용사절

 

형용사절이란 <주어+동사>를 포함하고 단어가 2개 이상 모여서 형용사 역할을 하는 말을 가리킵니다.

 

형용사절은 관계대명사나 관계부사(=전치사+관계대명사)를 이용해서 만들 수 있는데 관계대명사를 이용한 형용사절은 다른 글에서 이미 살펴보았습니다.

 

​관계부사란 두 문장을 ‘관계’맺어주는 ‘부사’를 말합니다.

 

선행사와의 관계에 따라서 장소(where), 방법(how), 시간(when), 이유(why)를 표현하는 관계부사를 사용합니다.

 

선행사와 관계부사 둘 중에 하나는 생략이 가능하고, 방법을 나타낼 경우에는 꼭 하나만 사용해야 합니다.

 

관계부사는 보통 <전치사+관계대명사>로 바꾸어 나타낼 수 있습니다.

 

◾ 장소

① This is the place.

② I grew up in the place. (전치사의 목적어)

⇨ This is the place [which I grew up in]. (관계대명사)

⇨ This is the place [in which I grew up]. (전치사+관계대명사)

⇨ This is the place [where I grew up]. (관계부사)

(이곳은 [내가 자란] 장소이다.)

 

◾ 방법

① The way is so impressive.

② She speaks French in the way. (전치사의 목적어)

⇨ The way [in which she speaks French] is so impressive. (전치사+관계대명사)

⇨ The way [how she speaks French] is so impressive. (how 생략 - 형용사절)

⇨ The way [How she speaks French] is so impressive. (선행사 생략 - 명사절)

⇨ The way [(that) she speaks French] is so impressive. (형용사절)

([그녀가 프랑스어를 말하는] 방식은 아주 인상적이다.)

 

◾ 시간

① I will never forget the day.

② We first met on the day. (전치사의 목적어)

⇨ I will never forget the day [on which we first met]. (전치사+관계대명사)

⇨ I will never forget the day [when we first met]. (관계부사)

(나는 [우리가 처음 만난] 그날을 절대 잊지 못할 것이다.)

 

◾ 이유

① Do you know the reason?

② She didn't come to the party for the reason last night. (전치사의 목적어)

⇨ Do you know the reason [for which she didn't come to the party last night]? (전치사+관계대명사)

⇨ Do you know the reason [why she didn't come to the party last night]? (관계부사)

(너는 [그녀가 어젯밤 파티에 오지 않은] 이유를 아니?)
